China to Spend 180 Billion Yuan on Wastewater Treatment Projects
China has announced plans to spend 1.4 trillion yuan ($175 billion) on environmental protection during the nation’s 11th Five-Year Plan period.
A Xinhua news agency told the Shanghai Daily that 180 billion yuan will be spent on wastewater treatment projects in areas along the country’s ten main water systems. The projects will be designed to dispose of 40 million tons of human waste per day, according to He Bingguang, vice minister from the National Development and Reform Commission.
The country also plans to establish 31 provincial disposal centers for dangerous waste products.
