EPA Requests Comments On Drinking Water Regulations

The EPA is proposing seven targeted regulatory changes to the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations (NPDWR) for lead and copper.

The proposal is meant to strengthen the implementation of the Lead and Copper Rule (LCR) in the following areas: monitoring, treatment, processes, customer awareness, and lead service line replacement. These changes are designed to provide more effective protection of public health by reducing exposure to lead in drinking water. The proposed changes do not affect the basic requirements of the LCR, lead or copper maximum contaminant level goals, or the lead and copper action levels. Comments regarding the proposed rule must be received on or before September 18, 2006, and comments on the information collection provisions must be received by OMB on or before August 17.
