Water Main Break Affects Homes for Third Time

A water main broke for the third time in the span of five years in a residential neighborhood, flooding water and mud into the home of a Hamburg Pike, Ind., woman. Janie Wilson, along with other residents in the neighborhood, have dealt with the floods before and told New Albany Tribune & The Jeffersonville Evening News that the situation is becoming unbearable.

The first time the main broke in 2001, Indiana-American Water put Wilson's family up in a hotel and replaced carpet and furniture inside her home. In 2004, Wilson’s husband was unable to deal with rebuilding the home again and committed suicide. This time, the water company did not provide the family with an alternate place to stay.

When Wilson asked workers if the water main might break again, she was informed that the pipes were old, indicating that indeed they could break yet again. Wilson has no plans to sue the water company over the problem, but is open to considering a lawsuit if the problems continue.

Indiana-American Water told New Albany Tribune & The Jeffersonville Evening News that the company has been working with Wilson and the others affected by the most recent incident.
