B&V Expert Addresses Symposium on Aquatic Environment Management in Urban & Scenic Areas

June 21, 2006

In order to implement the scientific development concept, exchange experiences of aquatic environment management of urban and scenic areas and to promote the ecological environment construction for urban areas, the International Symposium on Aquatic Environment Management in Urban & Scenic Areas (AEMUSA) was held by the Ministry of Construction of People’s Republic of China May 9 to 11, 2006 in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province.

With main topics of “harmony between mankind and water sources during urban development” and “facing challenge, building harmony,” the symposium consists of two conferences, namely the International Conference on Water Environment Management in Urban Areas (WEMUA) and the International Conference on Sustainable Utilization of Lake Type Scenery Resources (SULSR). More than 200 persons including officials and well-known experts from home and abroad were invited to introduce advanced concepts, planning and designs, typical projects and experiences of aquatic environment management for urban and scenic areas, to discuss countermeasures and measures to protect aquatic environment for urban and scenic areas as well as measures to enhance quality of residential environment.

Alan E. Rimer from Black & Veatch was invited to address in the symposium. Rimer is a well-known water and environmental specialist with 37 years of experience in the urban water industry. In his presentation, “Water Reuse as a Management Strategy for Cities in Water Stressed Areas, Rimer made profound analyses on comprehensive conservation and utilization of water resources in urban areas in particular in the water-stressed cities. His presentation also delivered a perfect systematic philosophy in overall planning, regulation and implementation of water-reserved city construction. The case studies presented abundant recommendable experience in the planning and construction of municipal water and wastewater facilities including WTP and WWTP.

Black & Veatch was invited by Beijing Capital, its local partner in China, to the symposium. The two companies had established a partnership several years before and will enjoy further and deeper cooperation in the future. Both companies are committed to more contributions to China’s market development in water environment and water resources.
