PWQA Recaps Successful Barbeque Event

May 12, 2006

Nearly 80 Pacific Water Quality Association (PWQA) members gathered at the Buena Park, Calif., offices of Performance Water at the end of April for an afternoon of food, facts and fun.

While the Sheboygan bratwurst sizzled on the grill (courtesy of Pentair), President Mike Mecca told the crowd about WQA Aquatech, held in Chicago in March, where Ray Cross announced his endowment of a challenge grant of $300,000 to benefit the Water Quality Research Foundation. Through that grant, every dollar donated to the WQRF will be matched by one from Cross up to the cap amount. PWQA’s Board of Directors knew a good idea when they heard one and issued a challenge of their own to the membership.

“To maximize the Ray Cross Challenge, we will match every dollar donated to WQRF by a PWQA member, up to $2500” Mecca explained, adding that a $50 donation will be doubled by PWQA to $100, which will be doubled by the Cross challenge to $200. “It’s an opportunity to make your donation go a lot further,” he said.

Pentair’s truck had a host of products available for hands-on viewing, while Performance showcased their new Isolux arsenic removal system and Water King products. RSI representatives were on hand to discuss changes in insurance options for small business owners and their employees.

C.F. “Chubb” Michaud, just back from the WHO Calcium Magnesium in Baltimore, gave the audience a detailed recap of the presentations there and what it may bode for the industry’s future. Tracy Strahl updated members on legislative issues throughout the state.

With half a dozen new members and a good time had by all, the PWQA is looking forward to making the Northern California Barbecue an even greater success.
