Puronics Acquires Ionics Consumer Water Group

May 11, 2006

Puronics, Inc. announced that it has acquired the Ionics Consumer Water Group from GE Water & Process Technologies, a unit of General Electric Co. The Ionics Consumer Water Group is a U.S.-based manufacturer of home and commercial water treatment products. GE acquired the Ionics Consumer Water Group through its acquisition of Ionics, Inc. in 2005. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Known for its innovation, product quality and design, Ionics Consumer Water Group offers some of the most technically advanced water treatment products on the market and has strong retail distribution. Ionics is a leading consumer water brand in North America. The transaction does not impact GE’s marketing of ultrapure water services for desalination, water reuse and recycling, and industrial applications.

“Through this acquisition, we see a tremendous opportunity to expand the Ionics Consumer business globally, using Ionics’ proven ability to design, manufacture and market high quality consumer water products,” said Scott A. Batiste, president of the Ionics Consumer Water Group. Batiste will continue to lead the business and has been named chairman and CEO of Puronics, Inc.

The Ionics consumer product portfolio includes a broad range of water treatment products for homes and businesses using technologies such as water conditioning, filtering, microfiltration, ultrafiltration, bacteriostatic carbon filtration, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet disinfection. It was founded in 1947 and continued as part of Ionics, Inc. and General Electric through 2006. As a leader in the consumer water category, Ionics Consumer Water Group will bring innovative products, an experienced management team and strong distribution to the Puronics business.

Puronics, Inc., headquartered in Livermore, Calif., is a diversified manufacturing and financial services company focused on solving the world’s water problems for consumers and businesses.
