MWH Soft, a global provider of environmental and water resources applications software, announced Salt Lake City Public Utilities (SLCPU), the State of Utah's largest water company, has switched to MWH Soft InfoWater Suite to support its large-scale enterprise-wide geospatial hydraulic modeling. The move further reinforces MWH Soft's market-leading position in advanced GIS-based infrastructure modeling and optimization solutions.
A recipient of numerous awards, including the prestigious ESRI "Special Achievement Award in GIS" and the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies 2004 Platinum Award for Sustained Competitive Achievement, SLCPU operates one of the world's most complex drinking water systems, featuring a large number of water sources and significant differences in service elevations.
The city encompasses a 135 sq-mi service area in Salt Lake City and eastern Salt Lake County and serves more than 400,000 customers through a network of nearly 1,400 mi of water mains and 49 pressure zones. The city's calibrated 24-hour dynamic InfoWater model includes around 36,000 pipes, 31,000 junctions, 25 reservoirs, 32 storage tanks, 98 pumps and 622 control valves. The model will be used to analyze existing and future hydraulic and water quality conditions and optimize the city's capital improvement program.
MWH Soft InfoWater Suite advanced geocentric water distribution modeling and optimization technology has a strong history of helping utilities significantly improve productivity, accelerate project completion cycles, enhance quality, ensure data consistency and promote collaboration across engineering, planning and GIS teams. With water utilities under tremendous pressure to deliver increasingly complex engineering projects on time and under budget, the innovative InfoWater network analysis technology is proving invaluable. Because it addresses every facet of utility infrastructure management, optimization and protection, InfoWater Suite allows utilities to increase profitability and efficiency across all stages of a project. By automating key planning, operations and design engineering tasks, it helps water utilities conceive and evaluate various scenarios, pinpoint system deficiencies and determine the most cost-effective improvements to achieve optimum performance and regulatory compliance, meet new security challenges, provide better services and forge closer ties with customers.
"We have a very intricate distribution system, and we wanted a comprehensive, high-performance water modeling solution that capitalized on our GIS investment and delivered the level of advanced functionality that raises efficiency and reduces costs," said Nick Kryger, GIS and IT Manager for SLCPU. "We were extremely impressed with InfoWater Suite and its seamless GIS integration, extensive functionality and optimization capabilities, speed, reliability and ease of use. The moment we experienced its performance, we were sold."
"We at MWH Soft are deeply gratified that our GIS-centric solutions continue to be recognized for their industry-leading innovation, superior quality and value," said J. Erick Heath, PE, vice president of Sales and Client Relations at MWH Soft. "SLCPU is one of the world’s most forward-thinking utilities, and we are thrilled to collaborate with them in their commitment to exceed environmental standards while ensuring efficiency, public trust and customer satisfaction. InfoWater's ease of use, powerful computational capabilities and seamless GIS integration promise to reap dividends in time, cost and productivity for the city for decades to come."
"Many visionary utilities and engineering firms around the world are implementing rigorous enterprise GIS modeling solutions," said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D, president and COO of MWH Soft. "Our state-of-the-art geospatial technology is widely regarded as the smartest choice, affording unparalleled ease of use, productivity and a complete infrastructure modeling and management solution. Progressive organizations are evaluating our software applications in the real world every day. Their feedback and the rapid adoption rate of MWH Soft geospatial technology tell us we have created the most practical and advanced solution available, one that offers tremendous business advantages. As an industry leader, SLCPU maintains very high expectations. I am proud that our team has met them. Our goal will always be to provide comprehensive geospatial solutions that deliver the ultimate modeling experience."
