Nov. 30, 2005

Arbor Networks, a leader in network security, announced that its customer American Water, the largest water services provider in North America, has been honored with an InfoWorld 100 Award for its innovative use of Arbor Peakflow X, Arbor Networks' internal intrusion prevention solution (IPS). Arbor Peakflow X protects against internal and external attacks and threats against business networks.

Each year, InfoWorld's editorial staff names 100 companies they believe have made the best use of technology to enhance their businesses. The InfoWorld 100 Awards celebrate the use of leading technology in smart, innovative ways to meet real-world business objectives. As a solution, Arbor Peakflow X offered American Water the concise detection of spyware, phishing, pharming, zero-day attacks and propagating worms without false positives.

"Arbor Peakflow X has made a significant difference in our ability to protect American Water's enterprise network," said Bruce Larson, security director, American Water. "Deployment of the solution resulted in more than $1 million in combined savings and avoided operational expenses by mitigating security threats and preventing internal misuse."

With security protection, visibility into the enterprise network and the ability to identify and mitigate any network anomalies, American Water continues to realize time, money and productivity savings. The company is no longer faced with network interruptions due to worm attacks or potential threats of insider misuse, and their corporate security team is able to ensure the organization's protection and productivity.

"With the ongoing threat of malicious Internet-based attacks, security issues are at the forefront of every enterprise organization," said Tina Stewart, vice president of marketing at Arbor Networks. "We are pleased that InfoWorld is recognizing this issue by honoring American Water for their innovative deployment of Arbor Peakflow X to address the growing threats facing enterprises today."
