Severn Trent to Provide Arsenic Removal Technology for County of Sacramento

Sept. 12, 2005

The SORB 33 arsenic removal technology and Bayoxide E33 arsenic removal media from Severn Trent Services have been selected for use by the Sacramento County (Calif.) Water Agency at a 300 gallon per minute (gpm) arsenic removal water treatment facility, where total arsenic in an agency well was measured at 19 parts per billion (ppb).

The new EPA arsenic standard for drinking water of 10 ppb will go into effect in January 2006. Installation of the new arsenic removal system is expected to be completed prior to the new maximum contaminant level (MCL) deadline. The contract is valued at $175,000.

Severn Trent Services developed the SORB 33 process to reduce arsenic contamination across a range of water treatment application sizes, and the technology has been commercially proven to effectively and economically meet the stringent new government MCL standard. Bayoxide E33 is a dry, robust, ferric oxide media designed with a high capacity for arsenic, providing long operating cycles and low operating costs. Compared to competitive technologies, Bayoxide E33 offers the lowest capital cost while providing ease of operation and maintenance. The media has been permitted for use by health and environmental agencies in 15 states, more than any other arsenic removal technology.
