Engelhard Water Purification Technology NSF Certified

Engelhard water purification technology for Arsenic removal was recently certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) for use in water systems components.

Engelhard’s patented ARM 200 adsorbent was certified under NSF’s Section 61, Drinking Water System Components - Health Effects. The technology is a safe and efficient water purification treatment that is capable of removing more than 99% of arsenic from drinking water with no preoxidation or pre-treatment.

Engelhard ARM 200 also provides a cost-effective means for smaller water systems to meet the more stringent U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) arsenic standards for public drinking water supplies. The EPA lowered the current acceptable level from 50 ppb to 10 ppb effective January 2006.

"This certification reassures consumers that our solution enables safe drinking water. It will help us make further progress in the drinking water market."

NSF International is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that certifies manufacturing process for health and safety. The NSF Section 61 voluntary standard is an internationally recognized standard for safe drinking water system components. It governs all components and materials that water may come in contact with when traveling in the system from a well or other water intake through the faucet including all pipes, valves and fittings. NSF Section: 61 Certification is based on a series of tests to ensure that the system and fixtures contain no products that will leach or migrate into the drinking water and elevate contaminants above the accepted levels.

Engelhard ARM 200, available in granules and powder, is a patented adsorbent available for use in household filters, industrial and water utility filtration systems. It has demonstrated arsenic capacity six to eight times that of activated alumina adsorbents, and is capable of removing more than 99% of arsenic even in the presence of competing ions.

Engelhard ARM 200 compliments Engelhard’s ATS, lead and other heavy metals removal advanced water-purification technologies.

In addition to the new EPA standards, Engelhard ARM 200 can help water systems makers meet New Jersey’s proposed tighter reductions in arsenic levels to 5 ppb.
