USFilter Units Win 2004 Wisconsin Corporate Safety Award

May 2, 2005

The Wisconsin Council of Safety (WCS) and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) have announced USFilter Zimpro Systems and Enviroscan Services of Rothschild, Wis., as winner of the 2004 Wisconsin Corporate Safety Award in Category A -- Manufacturing, Category III - 400,001 to 1 million work hours.

This marks the company's second award in four years. The company has worked more than 10 years, or more than 4.35 million hours, without a lost-time accident.

USFilter accepted the award at the 11th Annual Corporate Safety & Hall of Fame Awards Dinner on April 18 at the Kalahari Resort in the Wisconsin Dells.

The Wisconsin Corporate Safety Award Program is designed to honor employers who exemplify safety and health excellence. Distribution of awards is based on the type and size of business; 16 Wisconsin companies won an award this year.

"From 131 applicants, there were 113 finalists. Finalists needed to complete subjective reports that were judged by a panel of 48 judges," said Bryan Roessler, WCS safety director. "[The Zimpro and Enviroscan] organizations should be commended for regarding occupational safety and health in such a strong manner. All too often, employers do not realize the human and economic value of strong occupational safety and health efforts. Moreover, many employers do not realize the positive effect safety and health recognition can have on employee morale and production, as well as on potential business opportunities."

"The unique combination of manufacturing, field service and laboratory activities at our facility creates the potential for a wide range of safety hazards each and every day," said Chad Felch, EH&S coordinator for USFilter Zimpro Systems and Enviroscan Services. "Every one of our employees has put forth a dedicated and continuous effort to reach and maintain the high level of success in safety that we have achieved."

"Winning this award a second time in four years is a great accomplishment," said Jerry Rogers, senior vice president and general manager of USFilter Zimpro Systems and Enviroscan Services. "Out of thousands of manufacturers in Wisconsin, to be selected as the best twice in four years is a testament to everyone's commitment to continuous improvement."

The company has worked over 10 years, or more than 4.35 million hours, without a lost-time accident, and is recognized as a leader in safety within USFilter. Another USFilter manufacturing facility in Ames, Iowa, has more than seven years or 2 million hours without a lost time accident. USFilter company-wide recordable injury rate and lost-time injury rates are both significantly below industry standards.

WCS is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, dedicated to making Wisconsin a safer and healthier place to live and work. The WCS promotes safety and health programs, resource services and educational materials for community outreach.
