Plenty of spring runoff has allowed the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to begin substantial water releases from Navajo Reservoir into the San Juan River in New Mexico.
Water releases into the river began yesterday. The releases gradually will be increased to replicate the natural flow of the river during spring runoff.
They will level off May 25 through June 15 and then gradually be decreased.
Currently, the reservoir is within 24 feet of its capacity.
