Free Tanks, Treatment Plant Offered in Pa.
Anyone in need of two large water storage tanks can have for free, as long as they haul away Shippenville’s old water treatment plant as well.
The tanks and treatment plant are up for grabs to whomever dismantles and transports them.
The rest of the borough’s water system currently is owned by Pennsylvania-American Water, which supplies water from its treatment plant near Clarion, Pa., routed through a water tower in Paint Township just north of Marianne.
According to unofficial records of the April 13 borough council meeting, they may have a taker. Scott Jones said he is willing to dismantle and remove the tanks.
Borough council president Ed Ganoe contacted borough legal counsel Terry Pope, who recommended Shippenville should let the tanks be removed as long as there is no cost to the borough.
Ganoe said he would have Pope draw up an agreement regarding insurance liability and a time frame in which to complete the project.
Officials agreed that the project must be advertised to the public so that anyone may submit proposals for the tank removal.
