AWWA Celebrates Member Appreciation Week

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) is praising its members during Member Appreciation Week, Nov. 7-13.

"We owe the growth and success of AWWA over the past century to the involvement of our members and their commitment to protecting public health, safety and welfare, " said Jack Hoffbuhr, AWWA executive director. "The dedication of our members, who come from the full spectrum of the drinking water community, has helped make AWWA the authoritative resource on safe drinking water."

AWWA was founded in 1881 by 22 members who saw the need for information exchange and product standards to help ensure consistent quality of drinking water.

Today, AWWA has grown to approximately 57,000 members with 5,000 volunteers who are involved in all aspects of the association’s products and services. AWWA relies on the expertise of its members to advance technology, science, management, and government policies related to water.

"AWWA members have helped shape all aspects of the water industry, from standards to education to technology …The work of our members has improved the quality and supply of drinking water not only in North America but across the world," Hoffbuhr said.

The association counts on the work of its volunteer councils, divisions and committees. Volunteers also support the activities of its 43 sections, where members get involved at the grass-roots level.
