West Bank to get $7.8 M for Sewage Treatment

Sept. 8, 2004

The World Bank said yesterday it will grant the West Bank and Gaza $7.8 million for emergency sewage treatment.

The money will be used to tackle an overflow at the Beit Lahia water treatment plant, which is threatening to flood neighboring communities with contaminated water, the international agency said.

The aim is first to mitigate the immediate health and environmental safety threats, then to provide a longer-term solution to the treatment of wastewater by implementing the proposed North Gaza wastewater treatment plant, east of Jalalia, the World Bank said.
