Wisconsin Town Buys Land for Stormwater Facility

Sept. 9, 2004

Long-standing drainage issues in the Palisades area of Menasha, Wis., may get some relief soon, thanks to a $100,000 land purchase by the town.

The Town Board recently authorized the purchase of a 2.5-acre parcel for $40,000 an acre to facilitate construction of a stormwater management facility adjacent to Palisades Park.

Last spring, town officials estimated the cost of the land and detention pond at $322,000, which would be 70% covered by a state Department of Natural Resources grant, leaving 30% for the town. Another $130,500 to pipe the water from the pond to the Fox River would not be grant-eligible.
