The Clayton County Water Authority Newman Wetland Center will be hosting its Annual Wetlands and Watershed Festival to highlight the importance of protecting and managing wetlands

To highlight the importance of protecting and managing wetlands, the Clayton County Water Authority (CCWA) Newman Wetland Center, Morrow, Ga.-a focal point of public education for the water utility will be hosting its Annual Wetlands and Watershed Festival on Saturday, August 28, from 10a.m. to 3 p.m.

The intent of the event is to educate the public about wetlands, the wildlife living within them, as well as the public's role to protect the watersheds that encompass such natural resources, said Carol Lambert, senior conservationist for the CCWA Newman Wetlands Center.

"This is perhaps our largest and most influential public education event of the year, providing us with a means to rise awareness of the importance of watersheds in our community," Lambert said. "The public's role is vital if we are to properly manage and protect all of the critical components of a healthy watershed."

Many of CCWA's partners have joined to provide assistance in public education programming during the event. Environmental agencies and organizations will be on hand with exhibits and materials. The Water Authority, will have detailed designs and public information available to explain the utility's watershed management program and new constructed wetlands, which provide an additional, natural filtration for treating wastewater exiting the Authority's water reclamation facilities.
