EPA to Revisit Water Quality Criteria for Ammonia

July 13, 2004

The EPA announced last week that they intend to reevaluate the current water quality criteria for ammonia to determine whether they should be revised to reflect new toxicity data.

The agency also seeks additional data on the acute or chronic toxicity of ammonia to aquatic life and scientific views on the interpretation of data that might help us as we reevaluate the ammonia criteria.

The EPA is asking the public to submit scientific information before August 9. Information can be found at the complete Federal Register notice by visiting www.epa.gov/waterscience/standards/ammonia.
