Water Privatization Documentary to Air Tuesday On PBS
Thirst, a documentary on global water privatization, will have its national broadcast premiere on public television's P.O.V. series on Tuesday, July 13 at 10 p.m. (Check local listings.)
The documentary attempts to address the question of whether water is a human right or a commodity and focuses on community resistance to corporate water takeovers in Stockton, Calif., Bolivia and India.
PBS promotional information says the documentary "shows that popular opposition to the privatization of water sparks remarkable coalitions that cross partisan lines. When it comes to water, many people demand local control and fear the arrival of multinational corporations with large lobbying budgets and little local loyalty." Additional information on the program is available at www.thirstthemovie.org.
