Clayton County Water Authority a Hit With Gold, Platinum and Top Facility Awards

The Clayton Country Water Authority (CCWA) is a hit, according to the judgement of fellow professionals in the water and sewer industry. The CCWA Board of Directors recognized a number of top employees and their respective facilities during the June Authority meeting, after the staff returned home from and industry conference that honored all of the water and wastewater treatment facilities for outstanding performances. This degree of industry praise was unprecedented in the history of the Authority.

Never before have all of the CCWA facilities been recognized for treatment and operations excellence within the same year, but such was the case at the recent Georgia Water & Pollution Control Association (GWPCA) spring conference.

The headliner during the awards presentation came when the GWPCA recognized the CCWA's Freeman Road Water Production Complex as the "Best Operated Plant of the Year" for 2004, to recognize "outstanding accomplishments in the field of water and wastewater operations" in the state of Georgia. The Freeman Road facility was named the top plant in the state among water utility facilities treating 3 to 15 million gallons per day (mgd).

In addition to its Freeman Road facility winning the "Plant of the Year" award, the CCWA also received Gold and/or Platinum Awards for all its water and wastewater plants. The William J. Hooper drinking water production facility is one of the few plants in the state to receive the coveted "Platinum" award, which recognizes 100 percent compliance with Georgia System Permits for five or more consecutive years.

The CCWA also won a Platinum Award among competing wastewater facilities in the state with its Shoal Creek water reclamation facility (WRF).

The Authority's two other wastewater treatment facilities–the Northeast WRF and the W.B. Casey Plant–received Gold Awards, which recognize industry water and wastewater plants the obtained 100 percent compliance with the Georgia System Permits for the 2003 calendar year. On the water side of CCWA operations, the "Best-Operated" Freeman Road and the J.W. Smith drinking water production facilities both received GWPCA Gold Awards as well.
