AWWA Webcast: Converting to Chloramines

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that 30 percent of surface water utilities will use chloramines for secondary disinfection after the Stage 1 DBPR and that the percentage will approach 60 percent as utilities make changes to comply with Stage 2 DBPR. Trouble-free conversion to chloramines involves understanding the chemistry at work, factors to consider in making the change, and key aspects of technical as well as public outreach issues associated with conversion.

- Basics of chloramine chemistry, including properties (species including organochloramines), disinfection chemistry of chloramines, and DBPs (including NDMA)
