ABB’s Paliwal Adds U.S. Role

ABB has announced that Group executive Dinesh C. Paliwal will take on the additional role of ABB Inc. president in the United States effective Jan. 1. He succeeds Donald Aiken, who will retire at the end of January as president of ABB Inc. and head of the Group’s automation activities in the U.S.

Paliwal is a member of the ABB Group executive committee and is the head of the Group’s Automation Technologies business worldwide that employs over 50,000 people and posted 2002 revenues of $8.5 billion.

He has more than two decades of experience in the process and utility industries, including management of ABB businesses serving the automotive, chemical, metals and minerals, pulp and paper, electric power, printing, and other manufacturing industries. Paliwal has worked and lived in six countries, and is a frequent speaker and consultant to commercial and governmental organizations in the U.S. and abroad.

Paliwal was educated in India and the United States. He received master’s degrees in applied science and engineering and in Business administration from Miami University of Ohio. Also, he earned a master’s degree in paper science and engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology and a bachelor of science degree from St. John’s University in India.

In addition to serving on the boards of several ABB units in Europe and Asia, Paliwal is a member of the Business Roundtable and the U.S.-India and U.S.-China Business Councils, and also serves as an advisor on economic issues to the governor of Guangdong Province, China. He lives in Connecticut with his wife and two children.
