Water Treatment Dealer Bill Wallace Dies

William D. Wallace, 48, died Oct. 7 after a battle with cancer. He was a water treatment dealer and long-time member of both the Pacific Water Quality Association and WQA, serving on two committees. As a member of the PWQA’s Board of Directors, Bill distinguished himself as a hard working team member and leader of our association and for the industry as a whole.

Bill will be remembered for his easy going but direct manner as well as an outstanding asset to the industry, stated the PWQA.

Wallace and his wife owned Rayne Water Softener Systems of Santa Monica. He served as a member of the PWQA's Board of Directors for many years and was PWQA president in 1999, reported the Water Quality Association.

During his presidency, he helped win the industry one of its most significant battles with the passage of SB 1006, a landmark bill that limited restrictions on softeners, stated WQA.

He has several PWQA service awards to his credit including the Sydney Solomon Award in 2001. At the 2003 PWQA Convention and Trade Show in Tucson, Ariz., the Board of Directors named Bill the 2003 recipient of the Pacific Water Quality Association's "Hall of Fame Award." This award, the association’s highest and most prestigious award, is given to honor and acknowledge the service of an individual whose contributions to the Association span over many years.

Wallace started his career in the water treatment industry in the 1960s, working at a Culligan dealership with his father. In the early 1980s, Wallace began a career with the Rayne organization that spanned more than 20 years.

Born July 31, 1955, in Newport Beach, Calif., son of Robert and Marge Wallace. Bill was married to his wife, Chris, in San Francisco, Calif. Bill was a true fan of the outdoors; he especially enjoyed fresh water fishing. He treasured his family and took pride in being a good daddy and husband.

Wallace is survived by his wife Chris; son, Bill; mother, Marge Wallace; brothers Robert and Richard Wallace; and sisters, Carol Wright, Cynthia Wallace, and Bonnie Kelly.

Memorials in honor of Wallace can be made to the American Cancer Society.
