Earlier this week, the White House granted the EPA a "green" rating for both progress and status of financial management. The rating reflects EPA's superior accomplishments since the establishment of the President’s Management Agenda in August 2001.
Examples of EPA's efforts include:
* Earning unqualified or "clean" audit opinions on its annual financial statements for the past two fiscal years; the same result is expected for 2003;
* Producing an accelerated Annual Report for fiscal year 2003; releasing the report by November 15 will beat the legal deadline by a full year.;
* Maintaining accounting and financial management systems that meet the highest government standards;
* Providing timely, reliable financial data for use in managing environmental programs; and
* Correcting all problems identified earlier under the Federal Managers Financial Integrity Act; EPA now has no material control weaknesses for the first time since the Integrity Act became law.
