Trojan Technologies Inc. has finalized a purchase order from N.V. PWN Water Supply Co. North Holland in the Netherlands. The order for ultraviolet water treatment equipment is the third phase of the Research and Product Development Agreement announced in April 2001.
The equipment, valued at approximately CDN $4.1 million will be installed at PWN’s drinking water treatment pant in Andijk, the Netherlands. The plant will be the first of its kind in Europe treating both waterborne microorganisms and micropollutants.
PWN and Trojan have been working together over the past two years piloting and testing the technology. The first two phases of the agreement, consisting of prototype development, optimization and testing of a UV treatment system to destroy pesticides and herbicides found in contaminated drinking water supplies, have been completed successfully. These phases enabled Trojan and PWN to determine the sizing and design of the UV equipment required to achieve the target levels of contamination reduction.
Scheduled for completion in the fall of 2004, the installation will ultimately treat more than 25 million gallons of water per day. The plant serves the drinking water needs of approximately 500,000 people.
