Hodnik Named Indiana's Young Engineer of the Year

Kimberly A. Hodnik received the Young Engineer of the Year Award from the Indiana Society of Professional Engineers in ceremonies held in Indianapolis on April 11. This award is given each year to National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) members who have made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and their communities during the early years of their careers.

Hodnik is a project manager at the consulting firm of NIES Engineering, Inc. in Hammond, Indiana. She is currently providing resident engineering services during construction of a new $3.7 million wastewater treatment plant in New Lenox, Illinois and also serves as the Plan Commission Engineer for the Town of Highland, Indiana. Kim is also a registered professional engineer in the states of Indiana and Illinois.

In addition to NSPE, she is an active member of the American Water Works Association and American Public Works Association. During National Engineer’s Week, Hodnik made presentations at Chicago area and Northwest Indiana high schools to promote the engineering profession.

Hodnik is a graduate of Crystal Lake South High School in Crystal Lake, Illinois, and earned a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the University of Illinois. She expects to receive a masters degree in environmental engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology next month.
