Robert Roscoe selected to Manage Sacramento Suburban Water District

March 13, 2003
The Sacramento Suburban Water District (SSWD) Board of Directors has appointed Robert Roscoe as General Manager of the district. Roscoe has more than 25 years experience in public and private utility systems focusing on retail water service, most recently serving as the Northern California Manager for the California-American Water Company. The Sacramento Suburban Water District was consolidated from the former Arcade and Northridge water districts in February of 2002.

"We are very fortunate to have Rob on our team," said Steve Eggert, Sacramento Suburban Water District Board President. "As Sacramento Suburban Water District marks its one year anniversary, Rob is best-suited to move the district forward and implement the new policies and procedures adopted by the SSWD Board of Directors."

About 50 people applied for the general manager position. After the list was narrowed down to a dozen exceptional applicants, Roscoe was selected.

"We were pleasantly surprised by the strong response of candidates seeking this position. We have appointed an individual from a highly qualified pool of applicants who has the skills, talent and experience to manage our water district," said Eggert.

Prior to working for California-American Water Company, Roscoe served as Vice President and General Manager for Citizen’s Utilities Company of California. Both companies served approximately 200,000 customers. He was responsible for planning, budgeting, resource management, program implementation and regulatory reporting. He also has significant experience managing organizational change, having led California-American through recent management reorganizations as a result of the company’s purchase.

"I am excited to be joining Sacramento Suburban Water District," said Roscoe. "Working together with the Board, I am very committed to ensuring SSWD has among the finest delivery systems providing a safe, high quality water supply to our customers at a reasonable cost."

Roscoe serves in a number of professional organizations including Chairman of the Sacramento Groundwater Authority and as a member of the American River Basin Cooperating Agencies, Regional Water Authority, Sacramento Central Basin Groundwater Forum, American Water Works Association and the Sacramento Area Water Works Association.

"Water is a precious commodity. There are no shortages of challenges as we look for new and innovative ways to preserve and enhance our water supply," added Roscoe.

Roscoe earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering at the University of California at Davis and Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a dual focus in Sanitary Engineering and Water Resources Engineering from California State University at Sacramento.
