Hancor to Expand Plastics Recycling

Feb. 11, 2003
Tons of recycled plastic are about to become corrugated drainage pipe with the help of a $150,000 state grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), and a matching investment from Hancor, Inc.

Hancor, and its business partner, the Hancock County Solid Waste Management District, were awarded the $150,000 from a total of $1.2 million in the Recycling Market Development Grant Program of ODNR’s Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention.

Hancor will invest at least $150,000 in matching funds to purchase processing and extrusion equipment that will turn 3,000 tons of recyclable plastic into drainage pipe each year. Hancor plans to have the equipment line installed at its Hantech manufacturing facility, located at 433 Olive St., in Findlay.

Steven Anderson, President of Hancor, said, "Hancor recently launched EcoFirst recycled pipe product and an official partnership with Ducks Unlimited, the leader in wetlands conservation. We pride ourselves in taking a leadership role in conserving the environment. When the opportunity came up for Hancor to partner with the Hancock County commissioners and apply for the recycling grant through the ODNR’s Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention, we jumped at the opportunity."

"The partnership between the Hancock County Solid Waste Management District and Hancor is good for the environment in terms of facilitating the recycling of plastics, and, it is good for the Ohio economy, generating jobs and creating long-term markets for the end products of the recycling process. We appreciate the grant and plan to have the equipment purchased, installed and to be making pipe by the end of this year," Anderson said.

One of the nation’s largest suppliers of storm water management systems, Hancor manufactures a wide variety of plastic drainage and water conservation products for commercial, residential, construction and agricultural markets. Hancor was founded in 1887 in Findlay, Ohio and operates manufacturing facilities and service centers across the country.
