AWWA Receives Standard of Excellence Web Award

Oct. 11, 2002

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) has announced that its newly redesigned Web site has received the Standard of Excellence WebAward in the 2002 WebAward Competition, hosted by the Web Marketing Association. The AWWA site, www.awwa.org, was praised by the judges for its excellent redesign, intuitive layout, good use of graphics and colors, in addition to being user friendly.

Launched in June 2002, the AWWA site was selected over 1,300 entries from 19 countries. Entries were judged on design, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation, ease of use, and use of technology. The competition was judged by a Web Marketing Association panel of independent Internet professionals representing a variety of relevant disciplines of Web site development.

"As we strive to provide timely and applicable information on the drinking water profession, it’s an honor to be recognized by the Web site community for excellence in Web technologies," said Cha Snyder, AWWA Web operations manager.

In July 2002, the AWWA site also received the highest rating of five stars from the international publisher Emerald, which publishes the world’s widest range of management, library and information services journals.

The new design has AWWA’s six core competencies serving as the site’s main content areas, and each competency has its own front page. In addition, the Web site’s Community Pages provide the drinking water profession with discussion forums, links to calendar and events, a Career Center, and links to other drinking water Web sites.

Established in 1881, AWWA is the oldest and largest nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to safe drinking water in North America. AWWA has over 56,000 members worldwide, and its 4,500 utility members serve 80 percent of America’s population.
