Bottled water is being used as an alternative water source for homeowners in Bonanza, Ore., reported the Herald and News. In recent weeks, seven of the homeowners' wells were reportedly contaminated with total coliform–two of them with E. coli.
Seventeen wells were tested in all by the Klamath County Department of Health. The Herald and News reported that city officials believe the contamination occurs because water in Lost River is impounded for irrigation, resulting in surface water flowing into Big Springs and the aquifer tapped by the wells.
Free bottled water was made available at the town hall.
