An official of The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) in Taipei, Taiwan, has announced a plan to spend (U.S.) $37.15 million in the next few years to improve the capacities of nine dams and to reinforce the safety structure for three dams.

Under the MOEA plan, some of the funds will be used to improve the water quality of Kaohsiung's Chengching Lake and to dredge about 230,000 cubic meters of accumulated silt.

The bulk of the money will be spent to dredge 8.25 million tons of sand from the Shihmen, Hsishih, Wushe, Paihe, Tapu, Mingteh and Wushantou dams, while the Hsiaochih, Mingteh and Paihe dams will be strengthened.
