R. W. Beck Opens Tampa Office, Expands Water Services

Oct. 3, 2002

Responding to an overwhelming need for municipal utilities to find better ways to manage water resources, management consulting and engineering firm R. W. Beck, Inc. opens an office in Tampa that will increase the firm's market presence in the water industry.

Existing work with leading water industry clients, like Tampa Bay Water and its multi-million-dollar desalination plant that will open later this year, paved the way for the new office and expanded practice, according to Neil V. Callahan, a Principal and head of the Tampa office.

"R. W. Beck is expanding its scope of services to help the water industry look at and implement alternatives, like desalination -- turning seawater into a near limitless supply of drinking water -- as a means to alleviate critical water supply shortages in Florida, the U.S. and around the world," Callahan says.

Callahan, along with an experienced team of water consultants, have spent much of the last four years assisting Tampa Bay Water with implementing their very successful Master Water Plan projects. "Many areas of Florida and the Southern U.S. are just beginning to face problems that are being solved now in the Tampa Bay area." R. W. Beck's opening of the new office will focus on assisting utilities to effectively meet tomorrow's challenges.

R. W. Beck has extensive experience in seawater desalination, including assisting Tampa Bay Water with both its existing and planned facilities as well as conducting a planning study to identify the most technically and economically feasible options for seawater desalination for the St. Johns River Water Management District in Palatka, Fla.

Located in the HQ Rocky Point Center, the office is the firm's second in Florida, along with an office in Orlando, which opened in 1965.
