Legislation to help keep water free of contamination through the establishment of the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority was introduced in the legislature.
The watershed authority will manage all surface and ground water supplies and was established in response to an April 5 drinking water strategy.
"Accountability, transparency and understanding are cornerstones of our new strategy but we all must be reminded that we cannot take water for granted," said acting Environment Minister Buckley Belanger in a government news release.
The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority Act and the Saskatchewan Water Corporation Act have several goals, including minimizing contamination of surface water bodies and protecting source water.
