Agricultural Water Performance Milestone Workshops Scheduled

May 3, 2002

The California Department of Water Resources and the Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) along with the Agricultural Water Management Council are presenting a series of workshops on Agricultural Water Use Efficiency Milestones.

Scheduled throughout California, the workshops are designed to provide information to agricultural water suppliers on both CALFED Water Use Efficiency goals and objectives and USBR Water Management Plan criteria or measures. Public input will be taken on both topics.

Workshop topics will include agricultural milestones, or measures that will enable CALFED and interested stakeholders to effectively track progress and craft changes in local agricultural water use efficiency activities. Also planned is discussion on quantifiable objectives, or how local projects will be crafted to meet CALFED water use efficiency goals.

For workshops within the USBR Mid-Pacific Region, there will be a discussion of the Central Valley Project Improvement Act Water Conservation Criteria and how that criteria may be revised in 2002.

Lower Colorado River criteria will be discussed in San Diego. CALFED staff will be on-hand to discuss water measurement standards and how they might be implemented in the CALFED service area. Speakers will be available at the conclusion to discuss workshop topics and take comments.

Additional topics of interest will include loans and grants available to agricultural water suppliers and a report on the status of the CALFED Appropriate Water Measurement scientific panel.
