High School Students Debate, Develop Plans on How Southern California Will Maintain a Balance Between Water Quality and Supply

The fifth annual Student Water Forum, sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California will take place Thursday, April 11, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The free educational forum is a student-driven day of debate, discussion and consensus building, focusing on the evolving issue of the sustainability of Southern California's water resources. The forum allows students to be decision-makers and gives them a glimpse into real water politics. The format provides students an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with experts from a variety of interests and fields.

During the highly interactive forum, students from throughout Southern California will work together in teams, learning, arguing and postulating before ultimately presenting their collective thoughts to an expert panel.

Participants include high school students and teachers from Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Ventura counties, officials and experts from Metropolitan; the California Department of Health Services; California Farm Water Coalition; Los Angeles & San Gabriel Rivers Watershed Council; the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley; the Sacramento Bee; and other agencies and interest groups.
