Florida Water Services Team Wins Fifth Consecutive Statewide Operators Competition

March 27, 2002

A team of Florida Water Services operators from Central Florida earned its fifth Top/Ops Challenge championship at the Florida Water Resources conference. By winning the statewide competition, the Florida Water team earned the right to represent all Florida water utilities in the national championship and once again win the international championship that it has held twice before.

The Florida Water Services 2002 Top Ops championship team of operators includes Vice President-Operations and Team Coach Dave Denny, Orlando; Glenn Whitcomb and Jim Smith, Deltona; and Jim Hogan and Pete Roussell, serving the community of Palm Coast.

The Top/Ops Challenge tests the knowledge of plant operators from different utilities, both public and private, in a College Bowl-type match. Teams vie for the championship by answering a variety of questions related to plant operations, safety standards, maintenance and regulations. The team correctly answering the most questions advances through preliminary rounds to reach the championship match.
