Trojan Technologies Announces Progress on Major Environmental Contaminant Treatment Project

Trojan Technologies, Inc., has made significant progress on a major business opportunity within the environmental contaminant treatment market for its large-scale ultraviolet water treatment system products.

On March 11, 2002, the Orange County Water District Joint Cooperative Committee for the Groundwater Replenishment System Project announced that it is recommending the use of Trojan UV equipment for the proposed Groundwater Replenishment (GWR) System Project in Orange County, Calif., near Los Angeles, as proposed in Trojan's Cdn$15.1 million proposal. The ultraviolet equipment will form part of a larger system that will initially treat a flow rate of approximately 70 million gallons of water per day.

The GWR System, a proposed project jointly sponsored by the Orange County Water District (OCWD) and the Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD), will purify for reuse highly treated wastewater that is now discharged to the ocean. Using Advanced Water Treatment (AWT) facilities, secondary-treated wastewater from the Sanitation District's sewage treatment plant will be purified to levels that far exceed drinking water standards.

The ultraviolet treatment system will be used to destroy N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), as well as to ensure complete disinfection of the treated flow prior to groundwater recharge.

Trojan management is optimistic that the contract for the ultraviolet system will ultimately be awarded to Trojan, but the final decision to proceed with the selection and award the purchase contract is subject to the approval of the OCWD and OCSD Board of Directors. Approval is expected not later than April, 2002. A final contract is expected to be awarded no later than the end of May, 2002. A demonstration system is to be installed in late 2003, while the full scale system is tentatively scheduled for installation in 2004.

Trojan will issue a further announcement in the event the final contract for the GWR System project is awarded to Trojan.
