Osmonics and Safety-Kleen Sign New Supply Agreement

Jan. 21, 2002

Osmonics Inc. announced that it has signed a new, nonexclusive supply agreement with Safety-Kleen Corp., Columbia, S.C., that allows Osmonics to sell its WasteWizard* oil/water separation system more widely.

Under the mutually terminated previous purchase agreement, Osmonics manufactured and sold the WasteWizard product exclusively to Safety-Kleen.

The new agreement permits Osmonics to sell the WasteWizard product to multiple markets, while continuing to supply Safety-Kleen with equipment and replaceable membranes to support its aqueous chemical cleaner business.

"Since we developed the WasteWizard in conjunction with Safety-Kleen four years ago, the use of aqueous cleaners-and the need for industrial cleaner recycling solutions-has taken off," said D. Dean Spatz, CEO of Osmonics. "Under our original agreement Osmonics was restricted from most sales channels. By renegotiating the agreement with Safety-Kleen, Osmonics is now able to introduce this proven technology to new markets through multiple channels including distributors, service companies and larger manufacturers."

The WasteWizard product utilizes patented membrane technology to efficiently separate oil from aqueous chemical cleaners. It can reduce cleaner usage by up to 85 percent, while reducing wastewater volume and highly concentrating the waste byproduct for more cost-effective disposal.

Spatz said, "Potential applications range from point-of-use systems in service stations and machine shops to large scale manufacturing and metal working industries. We are in beta testing on our new Mini-Wizard for parts cleaners commonly used in service stations, and have an active R&D program to expand the technology to meet the needs of entire plant oil/water waste treatment and recovery."
