The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) is gearing up for its 2002 Legislative and Regulatory Conference to be held March 17—20 at the Jurys Washington Hotel in the District of Columbia. On-line registration will begin this Thursday, January 10.
The meeting will include a session on water system security issues, on which Bush Administration officials in the Office of Homeland Security and the National Security Council have been invited to speak. Legislative and Regulatory Committees will meet to discuss current issues on the Hill and at EPA.
Several House and Senate leaders have been invited to talk about EPA's drinking water program, security and terrorism, infrastructure funding, and other national water policy issues. AMWA also is planning to hear from the EPA administrator's office and from representatives from the U.S. Department of Interior and the U.S. Department of Agriculture on related issues.
In addition, AMWA is planning a panel discussion of international issues, including whether trade agreements and the World Trade Organization can affect how water systems contract out services.
