The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California's Community Partnering Program awards the Children's Museum at La Habra $10,000 for the "Clear Water Mountain" exhibit to teach students about the natural water cycle, conservation and recycling.
The exhibit begins today, Friday, Oct. 12.
Assemblymember Lynn Daucher (R-Brea) to join Metropolitan Director Emeritus Ed Royce, Sr., who represented the Municipal Water District of Orange County on the MWD board, and MWDOC Director Brett Barbre will present a check to help build the water exhibit at the Children's Museum. La HabraMayor Steve Simonian and Candace Weidman, president of the Friends of the Museum board, also will participate.
Children will participate in a hands-on demonstration of how filters treat water
A 10-foot mock mountain will be the centerpiece of the 200-square-foot exhibit, scheduled to open in the fall of 2002. The exhibit, targeting children in grades K through 3, will offer an interactive setting designed to encourage enthusiasm about learning about water in a hands-on environment.
Metropolitan's Community Partnering Program aims to increase public awareness about water issues and policies in Southern California. The program will distribute $450,000 in awards and in-kind services during fiscal year 2001-2002.
