In a meeting held here at the at the 'Taraqi Pasand House' on Sunday with the provincial convener of Ponam, Dr Qadir Magsi, in the chair, the participants observed that the federation had failed to stop what they called an open dacoity of the Punjab on the waters of River Indus.
They accused the federal government of patronizing Punjab and said that the statements of the Chief Executive and ministers that Punjab had done a great favor to Sindh was tantamount to rubbing salt into the wounds of the Sindh province.
They severely criticized the statements of the Punjab Water Council and termed them anti-Sindh and a reflection of Punjabi chauvinism and expansionism.
If the Punjab Water Council was not controlled, the Sindh would strongly protest against the council and the responsibility of the ensuing consequences would squarely rest with Islamabad, they warned.
The meeting also condemned the inordinate increase in the prices of petroleum products, utilities and other consumer goods.
The participants observed that the economy of Pakistan was being destroyed by the rulers in a bid to appease their foreign masters whose policies had made lives of the people miserable.
The meeting condemned formation of the Karachi city government terming it a conspiracy to divide Sindh and demanded that the elections in Karachi be cancelled.
The meeting resolved that all the nationalist parties, which had signed the Islamabad declaration, would attend the meeting of the general council scheduled to be held in Quetta on June 30 which was likely to approve the constitution of the movement and elect the central body. It was further resolved to hold the elections of the Sindh chapter of the movement on July 18.
The meeting termed the dissociation of Rasool Bukhsh Palejo from the movement a good sign.
Those who attended the meeting included: Khaliq Junejo, chairman of the Jeay Sindh Mahaz; Maulana Azizullah Bohio, chairman of the Sindh Sagar Party; Azhar Jatoi, president of Sindh Hari Committee; G.M. Bhurgari, chairman of the Sindh National Congress and Maulana Ubaidullah Bhutto, the chief of Jamiat-i-Ulema Sindh.
