Haiyan: A Catastrophe of Epic Proportions

Nov. 11, 2013

Haiyan, one of the most powerful typhoons, swept through the Philippines last Friday, affecting at least 2 million people in 41 provinces, and final death toll has yet to be confirmed.

Winds of 147 mph with gusts of up to 170 mph hit the eastern seaboard of the Philippines and charged across its central islands, flattening homes and damaging infrastructure along the way, according to reports.

As aid begins to pour in, clean water, food and medicine are top concerns for survivors.

The U.S. military already has dispatched water, generators and troops to aid some of the hardest-hit areas, but much more will be needed in the upcoming days and weeks.

As with previous disasters, various companies and organizations in the water business are gearing up to offer relief.

Water & Wastes Digest and its sister publications Water Quality Products and Storm Water Solutions would like to invite everyone to share their relief plans to help build awareness of this devastating catastrophe. E-mail us at [email protected] to share your efforts.
