The American Public Works Association (APWA), representing 30,000 public works professionals across North America, and the Federación Mexicana de Colegios de Ingenieros Civiles A.C. (FEMCIC), representing 60,000 civil engineering professionals across México, have entered into an agreement.
The agreement will expand their reach and deliver greater value and education to their members in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, reported the press release. The organizations are focused on facilitating the exchange of ideas, technology, resources, and management practices for professionals who deliver public works and infrastructure services.
“APWA is pleased to share our wonderful educational and credentialing resources internationally while learning from others around the world,” said APWA President Mary Joyce Ivers in the press release. “APWA and FEMCIC are enhancing opportunities for technology exchange among public works professionals, heightening our members’ ability to provide essential services in communities across the U.S., Mexico and Canada.”
The agreement facilitates APWA’s efforts to develop strategic and global alliances with other organizations to promote APWA’s education and credentialing programs. It also facilitates FEMCIC’s goal of promoting scientific and technological development, knowledge exchange, international best practices, and ensuring high quality civil engineering professional practices in Mexico, according to the press release.
The areas of collaboration between the two groups will include engagement in each organization’s international affairs committee and content development for blogs and publications, reported the press release.
“Engineering & Technology is a core focus of APWA and our members welcome the opportunity for collaboration,” said APWA CEO Scott Grayson in the press release. “We look forward to expanding APWA’s outreach to all of North America through this new alliance with FEMCIC.”
“Mexico has a great opportunity to promote knowledge exchange through educational products and programs, initiatives, and best practices and resources,” stated FEMCIC president Alejandro Guevara in the press release. “The civil engineering community will be leading the effort to demonstrate how our organization is partnering with international organizations like APWA to improve the delivery of engineering and management services for public works infrastructure in our nation.”
Members of both associations will benefit from the exchange of educational and credentialing programs, publications and products, events and leadership opportunities, including APWA’s Jennings Randolph International Fellowship program.
