Happy Earth Day

April 22, 2013

Now in its 43rd year, Earth Day celebrates environmental awareness and progress by uniting activists of all nationalities and backgrounds to urge individuals, organizations and governments to do their part to protect the planet.

This year’s Earth Day is focused on the Face of Climate Change, according to the Earth Day Network. That group is collecting and displaying images of people, animals, and places directly affected or threatened by climate change, as well as images of people stepping up to do something about it, telling the world their stories.

Environmental protection would not be possible without making overall greener life choices, and that includes addressing water issues. Climate change threatens water quality, potentially increasing scarcity and putting added strain on already deteriorating water infrastructure.

With more than 1 billion people lacking access to adequate water supply and more than 2 billion without basic sanitation, events such as Earth Day are a great way to help raise awareness about water and environmental issues around the world.

The staff of Water & Wastes Digest wishes you all a happy Earth Day.
