In celebration of Water Awareness Month, Golden State Water Co. (GSWC) will host the Water Awareness Celebration, a free and fun water education event. The celebration is slated for Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Palms Park, Lakewood, Calif.
The celebration, in its 11th year, is a community event for the whole family featuring food, musical entertainment, water and environmental games, prizes (including t-shirts designed by GSWC employees and their families), water conservation information, clowns, face painting and a GSWC information booth. Other agencies participating in the event include the California Water Association, Central Basin Municipal Water District, Los Angeles County Fire Department, Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Santiago Canyon College, City of Lakewood Parks and Recreation and Water Replenishment District of Southern California.
Attendees at the event will learn from where their drinking water comes, how their water is monitored and tested to ensure provision of the highest quality of water, reasons why they should conserve this precious resource and what they can do to become good stewards of the environment—all in a fun and interactive way.
The celebration is a community-based event featuring local businesses and organizations. All organizations have come together with the common goal of water education and conservation. Last year’s event drew more than 1,200 participants.
