The South Florida Water Management district has given the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers notice that it plans to sue of the perennially polluted storm water treatment area near Wellington, Fla.
According to the Palm Beach Post, the treatment area, called STA 1E, is one six man-made wetlands in the district and was the first in the area built as part of the Everglades restoration. The treatment area is highly polluted, however, consistently exceeding nutrient level regulations.
The district plans to sue over flaws in the treatment area’s design and construction, contending that these flaws prevent the area from properly treating storm water.
