Earth Tech, a business unit of Tyco International Ltd. was selected by the Municipality of Jasper, Alberta to design, build and operate (DBO) the municipality's wastewater treatment facility. The 20-year concession period has a contract value of more than $11 million. Design has commenced on this fast-track schedule with construction slated to begin in May. The plant will be operational by the end of this year with full commissioning anticipated by the spring of 2003.
Earth Tech will replace the existing 30-year old four-cell wastewater lagoon with a more advanced biological nutrient removal (BNR) wastewater treatment plant system.
Earth Tech will also manage the operations of the facility including
-- Operations services: facility staffing and training, safety programs, start-up and commissioning of facilities and treatment processes.
-- Management services: financial and administrative reporting, discharge compliance, regulatory interface, quality assurance/quality control services, emergency response planning, accounting and human resource programs.
"Earth Tech has been at the forefront of BNR wastewater treatment and has demonstrated our expertise after completing other projects in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario," said Diane C. Creel, president of Earth Tech. "We look forward to a long-term partnership with a forward-thinking municipality like Jasper. This facility will provide significant protection to this unique natural environment and requires a high level of environmental protection to maintain ecological integrity."
