NECi ‘s enzyme-based technology for nitrate measurement has earned “Standard Method” designation from the US Geological Survey. The new methods (USGS I-2547-11 and I-2548-11) replace USGS automated continuous-flow analyzer methods based on cadmium reduction with nontoxic, soluble nitrate reductase enzyme. EPA and ASTM validation efforts are underway. The USGS methods are specific for the automated equipment used in all labs performing dozens or hundreds of nitrate tests per day. NECi has packaged the same reagents in test kits, for smaller labs and researchers. Simplified kits based on these reagents are available for nonskilled users and for on-site testing.
