Deadline Approaching for WWEMA/WWD Scholarship Award

Oct. 9, 2009
Deadline to apply for $1,000 scholarship is Oct. 16

A large portion of utility operators and support groups such as engineers and R&D are expected to retire in the next five years. While the current economic environment may delay the loss of experienced talent, the water and wastewater industry is definitely going to be faced with the challenge of filling in the growing workforce gap in the next five to 10 years.

In an effort to support young talent, for the last five years the Water and Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Association (WWEMA) and WWD have offered the WWEMA/WWD award, which provides a $1,000 scholarship to a student accepted to a college or university to pursue a career in the environmental sciences.

Last year the winner of the fifth annual WWEMA/WWD Scholarship Award was Jake Tischler, son of WWEMA members Joe and Deb Tischler, representing Severn Trent Services.

The 2009 deadline for the 2009 WWEMA/WWD Scholarship is fast approaching—Oct. 16, 2009. Students whose parent is employed by a WWEMA-member company are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
