Please join the DC Water and Sewer Authority as they break ground on two projects with significant environmental impacts on the region.
First, the thermal-hydrolysis and anaerobic-digesters project will allow solids left over after wastewater treatment to be pressure-cooked, which will produce combined heat and power—and generate enough electricity to fuel one-third of the plant’s needs.
Second, the Enhanced Nutrient Removal Facilities will reduce the amount of nitrogen in effluent to meet the new Environmental Protection Agency and Chesapeake Bay Program goals of 4.7 million lb per year or less in 2014.
Please be aware that you must wear close-toed shoes and a hard hat on the plant.
